Guidam, one of the top ten living stallions in the world.
Sire of “ Authentic” USA
horse of the year 2004 and Olympic Gold Medalist.
Sire of 35 Grand Prix and International Showjumpers.
Guidam produces results and here’s why: Pedigree, Performance and Progeny.
Guidam has all three credentials required for a world-class sire.
Guidam’s heritage needs no introduction:
Quidam de Revel : What more can be said about the sire compared by his owner, Flemming Velin, to Northern Dancer? He has won team bronze and individual fourth place at the Barcelona Olympics with Herve Godignon ( who now competes with Guidam’s daughter Liona). Quidam de Revel is also the sire of Jessica Kurten’s Quibel (Luidam’s 2004 Aga Khan team mate) who topped the World Breeding Championships sire ratings in 2004 for the second successive year and ten of his progeny competed at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez.
Jalisco B : Guidam’s grand-sire, holds the record for the most progeny competing in any Olympic Games and is also the sire of Quito de Baussy and Hermes de Reve.
Alme, Guidam’ Keur’s great grand-sire, sired two World Champions and is the sire of the great Galoubet A, sire of Rodrigo Pessoa’s three time world winner and Olympic medalist, Baloubet de Rouet and Touchdown, sire of Liscalgot. Furioso XX is related to such noted sires as Cor de la Bryere, Voltaire, Concorde, Le Mexico, Caletto and For Pleasure (another Olympic team gold medalist). Precipitation, Furioso’s sire, features in such Irish household names as Bahrain (Chainbridge, Warren Point) and Blue Cliff (Golden Cliff).
Steeped in such Selle Francais legends on his sire’s line, Guidam’s interesting dam line includes three time Grand National Winner Red Rum through his maternal grandsire, Magic Red.
Guidam fulfils the second credential (performance) with a series of international wins with Eric van der Vleuten at major shows like Mechelen, Bordeaux, Eindhoven and ‘s-Hertogenbosch, he won the best stallion title at the Zwolle International Stallion Show. Guidam then retired to stud through injury.
“Guidam possesses, as a stallion, all the genetic qualities
of his father Quidam de Revel, but I believe he passes on more rideability
to his progeny. The bottom line is that he produces the goods.”
Guidam was awarded a ‘ Keur” predicate by the KWPN
and was the 2003-2004 leader on the jumping breeding index with an amazing
rating of 171!. His stallion sons are at stud in Holland, Germany, The
United Kingdom, United States and Poland with a high percentage of predicate
daughters also at stud.
Guidam truly came to the attention of Irish breeders with Luidam’s outstanding Nations Cup appearances at Aachen, St. Gallen, Hickstead and Dublin, where he was the hero of the triumphant Aga Khan 2004 team. Guidam rose to the top of several international breeders wish lists after the 2004 Olympic Games when Authentic, definitive winner of the USEF trials, became the most talked about horse after his star performance clinched a team gold medal for the United States.
Guidam’s progeny are world class; the ratio of International jumpers
sired by him is phenomenal.
Amongst his oldest offspring is Authentic, star of the America Olympic team, who topped the 2004 prize money rankings with $190,373, other gifted Guidam progeny like Armani have rocketed their sire Guidam into the top of the 2004 USEF.
Outstanding wins in the Maastricht Grand Prix and German Masters Grand Prix at Stuttgart contributed to Authentic standing proud as sixth in the WBFSH World ranking list!
Luidam is another of Guidam’s talented progeny – winner of the coveted Foxhunter Final at the Horse of the Year Show 1999; Grand Prix wins at La Baule and Rome; multi Nation’s Cup appearances including a double clear in Dublin and one of the few stallions granted BSJA Gold Elite status, alongside sires of the calibre of Arko III, Marius Claudius and Randi.
Guidam’s progeny inherit his impeccable temperament – Guidam scored 9 for temperament during performance testing – athleticism and movement. Guidam typically produces quality blood horses with good bone, scope, suppleness and wonderful character. Guidam is your typical Selle Francais stallion with natural athletic ability and kind disposition.
Performers Breed Performers. To breed a potential World Class Show Jumper …use a World Class Sire!
A multi Grand Prix winner and sire who brings an exciting and exclusive choice for dedicated breeders looking for a purpose – bred sire. Ireland was, and still is the envy of Europe for the strength and quality of its mare populations.
Where Europe paved the way ahead was through performance testing their
stallions (seven of the twenty-nine horses competing in the Athens Olympic
show jumping final were by stallions who had competed at either Olympic/
World/ European Championship level).
Proven sires like Guidam keur can provide the performance element needed for the Irish Sport Horse to make a deserved comeback. Cavalier paved the way; Liscalgot, Dermott Lennon’s 2002 World Champion partner, proves that the theory of crossing European stallions with Irish mares really works…
Is Guidam the only living Irish – based sire with four progeny in the WBFSH Top 300, the new legend?
